The shears that Aanraku sells come with a little doohickey like a metal fingernail file.  There are complex instructions on the package, but I don't know if it actually does any good.  Here is what it says -
1. Draw the "custom rasp sharpener" at an angle from the outside of the lower blade to the top center on each side.  Only draw the sharpener from the outside, up over the top.  Do not draw from top center down.  Do one side, then the other.

2. Insert the rasp sharpener between the two lower blades and draw the sharpener from down, up past the edge of the blade.  Do not apply pressure on the down stroke, only on the up stroke.  Reverse the sharpener and do the other side.

3. Sharpen the center cutting blade from the outer edge of the blade, along the side of the blade, up past the cutting edge.  Never draw the sharpener down from the sharp edge of the blade.

Once again, I have never tried it, so I don't know if it works.

That can't be right Cabinfeverarts. It's way to simple. Any instructions that have less than 4 steps are unreliable.
